The Landscape Emerges | Bali, IND
The word “Canggu” pronounced “changoo”, is a hipster paradise, which was once a hidden corner of the island, but now is famously known as a popular stop among digital nomads and expats.
The area is maturing into an established area with new homes and modern villas, forming a modern rural living lifestyle. Despite its rapid growing housing hotspot, the site has several challenges met upon design development, since the site has significant contours along with high humidity – temperature and an obstructed view towards the lush paddy fields and green belts.
In efforts to ease the humidity and adapting towards the contours, we applied strategies for the design. The first strategy is to pinch the landscape upwards to create an opportunity to allocate programs underneath with cross ventilation flows in the space. The second strategy is dedicated to the beautiful panoramic view of the landscape and paddy fields surroundings and incorporate the view to our design.
Voids are also integrated within each living spaces to further enhance the quality of the space with natural light and ventilation, bringing opportunity for private courtyards within the residence. We vision the design to blur the boundaries between architecture and the surrounding landscape.
