The PALOMA Experience Center in Sanur, Bali, is a four-story showroom blending modern design with vernacular influences. Balancing PALOMA’s modernity with the surrounding context, K-Thengono Design Studio employs minimal surfaces to highlight displayed products while incorporating local elements inspired by traditional architecture and the greenery of the neighboring residential area.
The building’s sculptural form is achieved by carving horizontal voids into the massing, creating contrasts between open and solid volumes. A central atrium with a courtyard enhances vertical openness, introducing natural light and ventilation deep into the interiors. Enclosed sections, clad in recycled terracotta roof tiles that cast rhythmic shadows and modulate daylight, house architectural hardware displays. Void areas, dedicated to sanitary hardware, feature frameless glass enclosures lined with greenery, with operable panels enabling cross ventilation.
The interlocking layout and openings between levels allow views across showroom sections, fostering a dynamic visual connection between display areas. Seamless curves, made with naturally pigmented microcement for durability and low maintenance, unify interior and exterior surfaces, further promoting continuity.
Visitors approach the showroom via a terracotta-tiled ramp leading to a semi-outdoor café adjoining the courtyard. Inside, a linear sequence alternates between architectural and sanitary hardware displays across solid and void spaces. The journey culminates on the top floor, where a multifunctional hall and outdoor garden enhance the visitor experience.
